Opportunity knocks for students, teachers – and businesses

Jay Bruns knows he’s not alone in Iowa. Like many employers, he’s looking for a steady pipeline of talent, especially tricky in a state that boasts a 2.6 percent unemployment rate. The nonprofit that Bruns works for, Link Associates, also could use some marketing and programming input. But that can seem like a luxury to a perpetually budget-tight nonprofit.
Then Bruns heard of the Iowa Clearinghouse for Work-Based Learning and he eagerly signed on.
The Iowa Clearinghouse for Work-Based Learning is a virtual space that connects students and employers through shared projects that give students real-world work experience. These experiences help students understand connections between the classroom and the workplace, build new skills and make informed decisions about college or career training.
