"The City of Ottumwa is a progressive community of 25,000 people in Southeast Iowa situated on the rippling waters of the Des Moines River. Full municipal services are provided. The city operates two bus transit systems: one within the city and a second system supporting the surrounding counties. The city’s regional airport has a Category 1 Instrument Landing System which can handle almost all aircraft in all types of weather on a continuous basis. Ottumwa is serviced by the main lines of the Amtrak, I and M Rail Link, Burlington Northern and Chicago and North Western Railroads. The city’s 92,000 square-foot Bridge View Events Center is one of the best built, newly-constructed convention centers in Iowa.
The City employs 37 full-time police officers and 32 full-time fire department personnel. Each department has modern, up-to-date equipment and is certified in the latest training. Our public works and engineering departments have a team of 44 staff that design and inspect numerous street, sewer and bridge projects. Ottumwa’s 26 parks cover 600 acres making it the most park land per capita in Iowa. There are 8 miles of paved trails within the city – all built through donations and grants. The “Beach Ottumwa” is an aquatic park with one of the only two wave pools in Iowa along with 3 outdoor slides; children’s play area and an indoor pool. The city owns one of the two 18-hole golf courses within the city. Ottumwa is small enough to know you but large enough to provide all of the basic services to meet your needs."
