OTTUMWA — Fly Iowa has unveiled the logo for this year’s event, which is scheduled for Aug. 26-27 in Ottumwa.
The logo pays tribute to Ottumwa’s place in Iowa aviation history, referencing the Ottumwa Naval Air Station. And that’s fitting, given that Ottumwa Regional Airport, this year’s host site, grew out of the NAS.
Fly Iowa is a major celebration of flight in Iowa. This year’s event is expected to bring around 7,500 people to Ottumwa to share their love of planes and aviation. The event also includes free air shows open to the public.
Stunt pilots Skip Stewart, Kyle Franklin, Matt Younkin and Brian Correll are scheduled to perform. A jet rally sponsored by t! he Academy of Model Aeronautics is scheduled, along with a pilots’ dinner, youth aviation activities and historical displays.
The goal of Fly Iowa, which is run by the Iowa Aviation Promotion Group, is to help increase the number of pilots and aviation enthusiasts. It moves around the state to a new location each summer, and the Ottumwa fly-in marks its 25th anniversary.
