Thursday, May 18, 2017
OTTUMWA — Quilters, crafters and generally creative customers have been waiting: Hobby Lobby has announced a schedule for opening.
A release Wednesday from the national chain of craft and home decor stores states "the Ottumwa store is projected to open in early July."
Construction and renovations are under way at the 55,000-square-foot building formerly occupied by Kmart at North Quincy Avenue and US 34.
Those with crafting knowledge may want to brush off their interview clothes: The location could bring between 35–50 jobs to the community paying $10.45 per hour for part-time associates and $15.70 per hour for full-time, the company wrote in its release.
Hobby Lobby currently has 17 locations in Iowa.
"The success of our stores in Iowa is a good indicator that Ottumwa shoppers will be pleased with the quality, selection and value we offer in the craft and home decor market," said Kelly Black, director of advertising. "New customers and customers already familiar with the Hobby Lobby shopping experience are eagerly anticipating this store opening."
Hobby Lobby has over 750 stores across the nation. Each offers more than 70,000 crafting and home decor products. It is now the nation’s largest privately owned arts and crafts retailer.
Store hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. All Hobby Lobby stores are closed on Sunday.
