Iowa’s Job Numbers ahead of national average

The national unemployment rate rose from 3.8 to 4 percent in June, but for the state of Iowa it remains at 2.7 percent. Locally, the figures for Buchanan and Fayette Counties are near the state unemployment average.
Iowa Workforce Development communications director Cory Kelly said manufacturing, health care and other supporting industries have been moving in the right direction to keep Iowans gainfully employed.
“One of the unique things about Iowa is how we have been able to hold on to our manufacturing core as our number one industry,” Kelly said. “In all other states, the number one industry that has risen to the top is health care. In Iowa, our advanced manufacturing core is still the number one industry in the state.”
