OEDC Considers Adding Spec Building to its Inventory
Thursday, November 01, 2018
One common theme in responding to Requests for Information over the past 12 months is clear- the Greater Ottumwa area doesn't have high-quality, ready-to-move-in buildings for manufacturing purposes. That's an issue OEDC hopes it can remedy. While there is no guarantee that this will come to fruition soon, there's no better time to start planning.
A Request for Information is a method by which a site selector begins the process of seeking the best possible fit for an industrial customer to locate its next facility. Generally, it outlines the type of the industry (auto parts, baked goods, or frozen pasta), sometimes utility requirements, but in every case, there is a demand for specific square footage. In the last year, OEDC has fielded several inquiries, but in each instance, could not meet the facility size requirement.
Recently, discussion has focused on the possibility of OEDC developing a spec building to meet the demand for large square footage facilities. One partner that will certainly be at the discussion table is Iowa Area Development Group, which provides assistance to help communities achieve their project development goals by joining their network including over 220 member-owned electric cooperatives, municipal utilities and independent telecommunication companies throughout the state, to economic development groups like OEDC.
Watch for more information as it becomes available.
