OEDC Hits Grant Milestone

Thursday, March 07, 2019

In a recent report, OEDC board members learned that in the past five years, over $720,00 in grants has been awarded to the corporation. Amounts range from $1,000 to $200,000 and have been used to support projects like laborshed studies, target industry analysis, site certification, workforce attraction initiatives, digital marketing and capital improvements.

"There is a distinction to be made here which is that OEDC does not use its membership dues for special projects. That money stays where its most needed, to cover operational expenses such as rent, postage, phone, insurance, industrial park taxes, and payroll. Grant dollars are used to support project-based expenses which allow OEDC to compete in the marketplace" says executive director Sharon Stroh.

It's typical to make these requests to local sources such as Alliant Energy and MidAmerican Energy, but also the John Deere Foundation, the Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation, and USDA. If approved, one upcoming collaboration will include working with Area 15 Regional Planning Commission and Pathfinders Resource Conservation & Development focusing on county-wide economic development outreach.
